“What would happen if we stopped living as mothering micro-cultures and started living as a united mothering community?”
“What’s it really like to be that “other” mom?”
My goal in this project is to walk a mile (or 10) in the shoes of moms and find out the answers. I want to experience, understand and communicate what other moms lives are really like. I want my misperceptions and prejudices to be shattered by the truth. I want to get know and listen to the moms who “live” there. SAHM? Working? Work from home? From schooling choices to eating preferences- and religious practice-we moms can be pretty judgy. We turn our judgments into battle lines. I’m sure it’s partly because we make decisions that follow our personal convictions. And as mom- Of course were always RIGHT;) (Or long to be- or are afraid we’re not.)
Any way-I think we’d be better mothers together- especially if we learned to respect and learn from our differences.
I know I would.
I look forward to sharing this journey with you and getting to know you in the process!
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”
Matthew 5:38-48 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth. But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
In this project, I’m setting out to take those words- literally.
